WHAT TO DO FOLLOWING A DEATH

If a death has occurred at home, please call us once the doctor or medical professional has attended to verify the death.

If a death has occurred at hospital please call us at your earliest convenience

We will guide you through what needs to happen next to reflect your individual circumstances.
We will then make arrangements for the deceased to be brought into our care. Our telephone number is 01326 562492 (24 hours).

Once you have made contact, we can talk you through the next steps you need to take to register the death with the registrars and make the necessary arrangements.

You can also use the Tell Us Once Service, details of which are below.

TELL US ONCE SERVICE

This is an optional, but very useful service. The Registrar will take information from you to allow you to access the service which notifies all relevant central and local government departments about the person who has died.

One simple phone call or by giving information online will avoid the need to contact many individual government and council departments. It deals with matters including: State Pension, Benefits, Council Tax, HM Revenue, Passports, Driving Licence, Blue Badge, Bus Passes, Library Cards, Electoral Service etc.

The Registrar will give you a unique reference number to do this online at www.gov.uk/tell-us-once (you have 28 days to log on to the website) or they will give you a phone number to call if you prefer.
